A Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP), Melody Mitchel has worked in pediatrics since 1977. She was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.
In 1993, Melody obtained her master’s degree in pediatrics and oncology, as well as her certification as a pediatric nurse practitioner from the University of California, San Francisco. The following year, she moved to Orange County and joined the SOCPA family in August of 1997. A member of SOCPA’s clinical committee, her specialties include constipation and encopresis.
Melody is currently treasurer and past president of the local NAPNAP (National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners) chapter. She is also a member of the California Association of Nurse Practitioners (CANP).
In May 2001, she married Jeff Mitchel and has one stepson, Mark. A resident of Tustin, she enjoys almost all sports, mountain climbing, hiking and, most importantly, family time.
As a pediatric nurse practitioner, Melody says she is able to provide outstanding, personalized healthcare and, at the same time, educated both parent and child. “I love working at SOCPA as it allows me to work and have fun at the same time.”
Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) are very special healthcare providers who are dedicated to improving children's health. PNPs have advanced education in pediatric nursing and healthcare and they serve children and families in an extensive range of practice settings. Working with pediatricians and other healthcare providers, PNPs have been enhancing the healthcare of children for over 30 years.
What do PNPs do?
PNPs serve as pediatric healthcare providers for sick and well children of all ages. PNPs offer a variety of services including:
Provide health maintenance care for children, including well exams
Perform routine developmental screenings
Diagnose and treat common childhood illnesses
Provide anticipatory guidance regarding common child health concerns
Perform school physicals
Many parents choose a PNP as their child's provider knowing they will receive individualized quality healthcare!
